A few years ago I wrote a Mac screensaver (together with Enno Brehm). This refused to work with version 10.4 of Mac OS X, and I never had time to update it (or at least figure out why it won't work). But now it's back, thanks to Quartz Composer! In fact, it was almost no work to create a screen saver using this tool. So download it here (only 4 kb!), decompress and drag it onto the preview area of the Screen Saver preferences (in System Preferences).

If you use eBay and iCal, this one is for you. eBaytoiCal takes the frontmost document of Safari or Firefox and, if it is showing an ebay item, it creates an event in iCal from the data on that page. Tested on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5.

Version 4 supports most ebay sites: United States, Germany, Austria, Hong Kong, India, Australia, Singapore, Belgium, Canada, The Netherlands, UK, Spain and France. New with V4: The time interval to sound the alarm is user-configurable.

User tip from Norbert Rittel: Install the script to ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/Safari/ and enable the AppleScript menu (using the AppleScript utility).

You can use eBayToiCal with the nightly Webkit build if you change "Safari" to "Webkit" in the AppleScript.

Chris Norman points out that you can use this script with Entourage if you create the event using the following lines:

ABtoiCal is an AppleScript that creates repeating events in iCal from the birthdays and anniversaries in Address Book. Requires iCal 1.5.2 and Mac OS X 10.2.

Since Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) finally integrates birthdays in iCal, I recommend using that feature instead of ABtoiCal. However, some people like to have more control, so I fixed a bug and updated the script to version 1.9.1.
