Entrance:  The Browser for MySQL Databases With Charts

News
The latest version, 1.2.117, has improvements in the areas of HTML export and printing.  It also includes a new chart type we call the "ColorChart".
More to come on that!

ANIMATION AS AN ANALYTIC TOOL
The newest Entrance version supports "flip book" animation, a new technique that is useful for spotting time-related patterns in XY data.  Here is an example you can try for yourself.

ANALYZING WEB SERVER LOGS
In the first in a series of application notes on mining web server log data, we'll you how to use the MaxMind GeoLite or GeoIP datasets with Entrance to find out where your web site visitors are coming from.   Click here for more.

BI 2.0
We had a nice conversation with Michael Pittaro of SnapLogic at the MySQL Conference and the result was  an EntranceExtension demonstrating that we can connect to their "Pipelines".   Later Mike wrote:

Tod Landis was showing Entrance, a GPL licensed data browser, and Nate Williams of Kirix was showing Strata. Both of these tools are ‘data browsers’, but I view them as the beginning of a new generation of data access tools. They go beyond the basic query tool, and are moving into the realm of data display, visualization and analytics. At the same time, they are not traditional ‘report writers.’

Chris Marino writes about  how he sees the this new product category in "BI 2.0 is here...".

PLOT DATA FROM ANY JDBC DATABASE
In Version 1.2.74 the command line utility includes an experimental option for specifying a JDBC driver:    -d (jdbc driver class)

It  is not well tested yet, but should work...
and it means you can use the Entrance SQL extensions to plot data from any JDBC database!

WRITING EXTENSIONS IN APPLESCRIPT
On a Mac, you can embed AppleScript in EntranceExtensions   This note shows you how, and includes an example that connects Entrance to Google Earth.

If you purchased an earlier version of the IDE or we gave you one for helping, your serial number will continue to work with this upgrade.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OUR IDE AND COMMUNITY VERSIONS?

Our IDE version is built upon Entrance Community, and includes all community features.  The Macintosh and Windows releases are specially tuned for their platforms.  For example, SQL files can be dragged to the Entrance dock icon in the Macintosh version and they will open.

The IDE editor supports syntax highlighting as well as these additional feautres:  Undo, Redo, Paste from clipboard ring, Find, Find in path, Replace, and Go to line.

The Entrance IDE version also supports these time-saving features:

"Find in path..." does a fast search through the SQL files in your Entrance folders, searching for a filename that matches the string you specify.

"Open by searching..." does a fast search through the SQL scripts in your script tree looking for a file containing a string.
