WWII in the Pacific
challenged pilots and machines as never before.
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 takes you back to
this historic time and place with exquisitely detailed aircraft, cockpits, and scenery.
The flight dynamics of each accurately engineered aircraft capture the true
experience of flying magnificent machines, from nimble Zeros to lethal workhorses
like the Corsair and Hellcat.
Details like moving canopies, folding wings, battle-scarred paint, spectacular
damage, and last-second bailouts immerse you in a new level of realism.

Bob Campbell: Jeep Carrier Wildcat Pilot
It took a special breed of naval aviator and naval air crewman to operate off
the CVEs. Among the pilots of squadron VC-78 was a young ensign, Robert "Bob" Campbell,
a native of Toledo, Ohio (and an invaluable consultant during the production of
Microsoft® Combat Flight Simulator 2). Born in 1921, Bob had an early interest in
flying and aviation but never imagined that by the time he reached his early 20s
he'd be flying off a "jeep carrier" in the Southwest Pacific during some of the
darkest and most desperate days of the twentieth century.
SDK: Using the Country Config File
Check out the latest SDK information! This article explains customizing the
country config file, which allows you to add new nationalities and alliances to
CFS2, and change the graphics displayed in the user interface (UI) as well as award
images.
SDK: MDL Converter
Check out the latest SDK information! This article explains the MDL Converter tool,
which does three things:
-
It converts the MDL header of pre-CFS2 aircraft models to the new CFS2 format.
-
It fixes the payloads bug so you can use payloads on imported planes.
-
It optimizes the aircraft model to use the new CFS2 graphics format, resulting in
higher frame rates.
A Wartime Interview with Joe Foss
In the spring of 1943 Guadalcanal veteran, 26-victory ace, and Medal of
Honor winner Joe Foss was back in the U.S. Among his duties at this time was an
interview at the Bureau of Aeronautics. We found a transcript of that interview
in the National Archives and have reproduced excerpts from it below.
