Do you want to add comments to your iWeb blog but don’t want to pay for a .Mac membership?  Do you want more control over comments on your site?  Does the hit counter Apple provides with iWeb not give you all of the information you want about your visitors?  If so, iComment is the solution for you. iComment allows you to easily add comments, trackbacks, and detailed webstats to your iWeb site.
Add Comments, TrackBacks, and Detailed Web Stats to Your iWeb Site
Adding Comments to Your Site
Sign up for a HaloScan account.
In the iComment Preferences check “Add Comments to My Site” and enter you Haloscan username.
Prepare your blog pages in iWeb
To add comments to a page: Open iWeb and add a new text box on each page with the text Insert_Comments_Here without the underscores and without spaces.
To add trackbacks to a page: Open iWeb and add a new text box on each page with the text Insert_TrackBacks_Here without the underscores and without spaces.
Publish your site to .Mac or a local folder
Run iComment. It will ask you to select your site folder. Select the folder containing the pages you have prepared and click “Choose”. If you have selected “Search in all Subdirectories” in the iComment preferences, iComment will look inside any folder that is inside of the one you selected.

Adding Web Stats to Your Site

In the iComment Preferences check “Add StatCounter to My Site”
On Statcounter.com, go through the process called “Install Code”. You can customize your StatCounter to look any way you would like.
When you have completed the “Install Code” process, copy and paste the code that StatCounter gives you into the iComment preferences.
Run iComment. It will ask you to select your site folder. Select the folder you would like to add the StatCounter code inside of. If you have selected “Search in all Subdirectories” in the iComment preferences, iComment will look inside any folder that is inside of the one you selected.

Please Note: You can use other web stats services besides StatCounter if you would like.http://www.statcounter.comshapeimage_7_link_0
Notes and Troubleshooting
You have to run iComment again each time you publish changes to your blog.
To access the Preferences for iComment, open iComment and click Cancel in the “Select Your Site” dialog. Then choose “Preferences” from the iComment menu.
iComment will attempt to keep the styling of your links (ie. font, color, location, etc.). Due to limitations in iWeb, however, this is not always possible.
You can customize the look of your comments window through the HaloScan website.
Do not use underscores or spaces in the Insert_Comments_Here placeholder text. I only used them on this page to prevent this text from being converted to a comments link. Also, pay close attention to the capitalization.
If you are using iDisk auto-synching, you may run into problems with changes not appearing in the published pages. If this happens, first publish your site from iWeb. Then manually synch your iDisk, run iComment, and finally synch your iDisk again.
If you have other problems/questions/comments, please feel free to leave them in the comments section of this post!
